Estuary Life
Program Overview
Mission
Our mission is to provide an environment for learning about God’s creation through science and natural history using our estuary system in and around Wolf Bay with hands on inquiry-based experiences to enhance character education and earth stewardship.
Goals
At Estuary Life, our participants:
- Engage all five senses in investigating Wolf Bay aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
- Explore native flora and fauna to cultivate understanding and appreciation of the natural world.
- Discover creative
and practical applications of classroom concepts that enhance
cognitive learning of standards-based content material.
- Learn to celebrate God’s creation and foster stewardship through respect for each other, oneself and the environment.
History
The Estuary Life Environmental Education Program (Estuary Life) is an earth stewardship education program sponsored by Camp Baldwin, a ministry of the Baldwin Baptist Association, with over 50 years experience. The camp serves regional youth and the greater community through its popular Christian summer program and year round retreats. In fall 2009, Camp Baldwin decided to take a leadership role in environmental education by introducing Estuary Life!
Curriculum Overview
Our interdisciplinary curriculum is correlated to Alabama state teaching standards. Classes are taught by our trained Naturalist Educators who demonstrate a passion for life-long learning and the exploration of creation.
